Junior Achievement Through Music Mentorship
Larocque Masonry and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark are partnering to provide students in local schools with an opportunity to learn basic guitar skills through Mentoring.
The Mentors
The Mentors are local musicians, screened by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark County, with a keen interest in sharing their skills with children in need through mentoring and, helping their community. The mentor to mentee ratio will be a maximum of 1-4 at all times.The Mentees
The Mentees will be grade 7 and 8 students that have an interest in learing basic guitar and other instrumental skills as available. These students will be identified by the Schools as children that may not otherwise have a similar opportunity provided to them by their parent or guardian.The Cost
There will be no cost to the schools or the Mentees. All costs will be absorbed by Larocque Masonry through fundraising and sponsorship.If No Instrument
In the event a Mentee does not have a guitar, through fundraising and sponsorship initiatives, Larocque Masonry will provide all instruments needed at no cost to the Mentee or the School.Larocque Masonry Purview
Larocque Masonry will supply the musical instruments and all other materials that are needed to teach / Mentor guitar lessons. Larocque Masonry will also recruit appropriate Mentors / teachers to help implement the program.BBBS Purview
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark County will act as liaison between Schools and Mentors. BBBS will work with the Schools to identify the appropriate Mentees. BBBS and the Schools will be responsible for obtaining parental consent for the Mentees. BBBS will also screen Mentors to BBBS Canada's National Standards. BBBS of Lanark County will assist in Mentor recruitment and supply the bulk of the administration for the program; such things as photo copying media relations, advertising materials, documentation and financial issues.More Information
